Globe says Cameco maintained at "sector outperform"

2025-10-15 07:48 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that Scotia Capital analysts have noted a "substantially improved" near-term outlook for copper. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that the Scotia analysts project the largest absolute supply deficit since 2004 next year, with a deficit of 1.4 per cent of annual demand, the highest percentage since 2010. The Scotia analysts say in a note: "Given the significantly tighter near-term outlook, which is expected to essentially deplete existing visible inventories by YE2026, we now forecast markedly higher 2025-2029 Cu prices of $4.50/lb, $5.25/lb, $5.00/lb, $5.25/lb and $5.50/lb. ... Our long-term incentive price of $4.50/lb is unchanged. ... With low inventories and a very tight structural market, we see the potential for higher than anticipated Cu prices ahead, particularly if trade war uncertainty dissipates, another supply side shock emerges and/or the U.S. dollar materially depreciates. Outside of Cu, we have made only modest changes to prices for other commodities." The Scotia analysts continue to rate Cameco "sector outperform." Their share target climbed to $20 from $30. Analysts on average target the shares at $116.76.
