The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, Oct. 31, edition that the artificial intelligence rollout has faced challenges this year as hyperscalers reveal significant spending plans, raising sustainability concerns. The Globe's David Berman writes that amidst the turbulence, Celestica emerges as a more compelling and sustainable investment compared with other wavering AI giants. Celestica provides some of the sophisticated hardware that is essential to datacentres and counts Microsoft, Amazon, Meta and Alphabet among its customers. This attractive base has been underpinning the nearly 1,65-per-cent run-up in Celestica's share price from the start of 2024 to its peak this June. A $5,000 bet would have blossomed into a stake valued at more than $87,000 in just 30 months (all figures Canadian unless otherwise stated). Strong revenue growth and expanding profits supported the rally. In its third quarter financial results, released last week, Celestica reported revenue of $5.8-billion (U.S.), up from $2-billion (U.S.) in the same quarter in 2023. Operating profit margins expanded to 8.7 per cent from 5.7 per cent over the same stretch. Adjusted earnings surged to $3.30 (U.S.) a share from 65 U.S. cents.
