Merritt, British Columbia, Sept. 22, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lower Nicola Indian Band (“LNIB”) and Capstone Infrastructure Corporation (“Capstone”) are pleased to announce that the Mount Mabel Wind Project has been renamed Winds of Syex̣t. The Project is now held by the legal entity Winds of Syext Energy Inc. This 142.8 MW wind energy project is jointly owned by LNIB (51%) and Capstone (49%) and is being developed on the traditional, ancestral territory of the nłeʔkepmx people, approximately 25 km northeast of the City of Merritt in British Columbia's Nicola Valley. The Project secured a 30-year Electricity Purchase Agreement in BC Hydro's 2024 Call for Power in December 2024.
Winds of Syex̣t: Looking After Tomorrow
Syex̣t means "tomorrow" or "future" in nłeʔkepmxcin, the traditional language of the nłeʔkepmx Nation and LNIB. It is most closely pronounced "sh-ee-x̣-t."
LNIB members were invited to help shape the Project identity through a community naming and logo contest. LNIB Chief and Council selected the name submitted by Sophie Beckett and the artwork submitted by Katie Smith, which were combined to create the final logo. The artwork draws from the Nicola Valley landscape and the lived experience of being on the land. Its flowing forms evoke wind, movement, and connection, while the landscape-inspired shapes speak to the hills, rivers, wildlife, and gathering places that continue to shape community life.
Together, the name and logo Winds of Syex̣t tell a local story about connection to home, responsibility to the land, and the opportunity to build benefits for future generations. The new name and artwork mark an important milestone for the Project and reflect the shared focus of LNIB and Capstone on building a project that recognizes local identity, strengthens community benefits, and supports B.C.’s low-carbon future.

My family has lived in these valleys for generations, and some of my happiest memories are of being out on the land—walking the hills, fishing, gathering berries, watching wildlife, and spending time with family. Those experiences shaped my appreciation for the beauty, abundance, and resilience of this place, and I wanted the design to capture that sense of belonging.
For me, this logo represents more than renewable energy—it represents balance. It reflects the belief that caring for the land, supporting our communities, and building a sustainable future can all exist together.
