Power Corp. subsidiary to invest $10B in Cdn projects

2026-09-10 10:25 ET - News Release

Mr. Bruce Heyman reports

POWER SUSTAINABLE ANNOUNCES PLAN TO INVEST AND MOBILIZE MORE THAN $10 BILLION INTO CANADIAN INFRASTRUCTURE AND RELATED COMPANIES

Power Corp. of Canada's Power Sustainable, a multiplatform alternative asset manager, plans to invest and mobilize more than $10-billion into Canadian projects and companies over the next five years. The plan is anchored in opportunities that the firm's teams are already developing and evaluating across its infrastructure equity, infrastructure credit, clean energy and industrials private equity, and agri-food private equity strategies.

The announcement comes ahead of the government of Canada's inaugural Canada Investment Summit in Toronto on Sept. 14 to Sept. 15. In that context, Power Sustainable sees a broad investment opportunity extending beyond the country's largest projects -- to the critical infrastructure required alongside them, as well as the enabling businesses that support those systems. Together, these assets and capabilities are essential to Canada's economic, energy and food security, and industrial competitiveness.

"Canada represents one of the most compelling investment opportunities in the world today, and we believe this is a moment for private capital to act," said Bruce Heyman, chief executive officer of Power Sustainable. "Our $10-billion-plus plan is grounded in opportunities our teams are already advancing across the country. We can invest across the capital structure -- by developing and owning infrastructure, providing tailored financing, and backing the businesses that support these essential assets. Just as importantly, we can bring long-term partners alongside us to help bring those opportunities to life."

Power Sustainable: four strategies investing in Canada's infrastructure buildout

Power Sustainable is already investing across sectors central to Canada's growth agenda. The firm's integrated platform of four investment strategies provides for unique insight across sectors; a differentiated network across the country; and the flexibility to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. Looking ahead, Power Sustainable sees opportunities in power, connectivity, waste management, industrials, transportation and logistics, food systems, and aviation-related infrastructure.

Energy infrastructure equity: Through Power Sustainable Energy Infrastructure (PSEI), the firm has built a substantial Canadian portfolio spanning wind, solar and battery storage through Potentia Renewables. The portfolio includes Skyview 2 -- expected to be Canada's largest battery energy storage project once completed -- as well as clean energy projects across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Ontario. In the coming years, PSEI is advancing more than one gigawatt of late-stage projects alongside a broader development pipeline.

Infrastructure credit: Through Power Sustainable Infrastructure Credit (PSIC), the firm provides tailored financing for middle-market infrastructure across energy, digital connectivity, transport and logistics, utilities and environmental systems. Previously announced investments in Canada include rural fibre connectivity in Western Canada through Canadian Fiber Optics Corp.; telMax's fibre expansion in the Greater Toronto Area; and Convertus's organics-to-biofuel infrastructure in York region.

Clean energy and industrials private equity: Power Sustainable's clean energy and industrials private equity strategy, PSD, invests in established Canadian mid-market businesses that provide the specialized services, equipment and components needed to build, operate and maintain critical infrastructure. The strategy targets businesses that enable the expansion and modernization of Canada's energy and industrial base, including power systems, electrical infrastructure and other essential assets.

Agri-food private equity: Power Sustainable Lios (PSL) invests across Canada's agriculture and food systems, with existing investments including GoodLeaf Farms, Private Brands Consortium, Food Cycle Science and Crofter's Organic. PSL is also a signatory to Farm Credit Canada's $7-billion Agri-Food Innovation Investment Pledge.

The $10-billion-plus that Power Sustainable intends to invest and mobilize over the next five years includes capital deployed through the firm's strategies, co-investment capital invested alongside them, and debt and other third party financing expected to support the projects and companies in which the firm invests.

Connecting Global capital with Canadian opportunity

Power Sustainable invests alongside leading financial institutions and continues to build partnerships with domestic and international investors to pursue this opportunity set. The firm invests across North America and other OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) markets, combining Canadian roots and operating experience with an international platform that connects long-term capital with infrastructure and related businesses.

"Canada is at a moment of major economic change -- and, we believe, major opportunity," said Olivier Desmarais, chairman of Power Sustainable. "The country has the resources, talent and institutional strength to attract long-term capital at global scale. Through Power Sustainable, we intend to put significant capital to work and bring Canadian and international investors alongside us to help build the infrastructure and businesses that will drive the country's next generation of sustainable growth."
