The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, June 10, edition that Canaccord Genuity analyst Aravinda Galappatthige has reaffirmed his "buy" call on Rogers Communications. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Galappatthige bumped his share target ahead to $47 from $44. Analysts on average target the Class B shares at $51.32. Mr. Galappatthige says in a note: "We are of the view that Rogers's share price has reflected little to no recognition for its recent efforts to crystallize value for its sports assets, and consequently is positioned for material upside as the process rolls along. We believe there is a high likelihood of a transaction involving the sale of a minority interest in Rogers's SportsCo within six to 12 months. We conservatively estimate that the asset base can be valued at nearly $13-billion (management notes $15-billion), and we have illustrated that the current attribution for these assets in the stock price is zero, or negligible. We calculate that a 50-per-cent recognition of this value by the market could translate to a 33-per-cent uptick to Rogers's market valuation." The Globe reported on April 8 that Mr. Galappatthige raised Rogers to "buy" from "hold." It was then worth $34.11.
