The National Post reports in its Friday edition that Shopify president Harley Finkelstein was harassed at a Montreal festival on Wednesday and he called it "antisemitism. Pure & simple." Postmedia's Stewart Lewis writes that political activist and writer Yves Engler confronted Mr. Finkelstein during a session at Startupfest, a three-day tech and entrepreneurship conference. He says Mr. Engler was booed and the crowd cheered when he was escorted out. Mr. Finkelstein was in the middle of a conference chat with former Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Georges St-Pierre about global ambition, overcoming anxiety and the similarities between entrepreneurship and elite fighting. A protester came up to the side of the stage and asked why he supported the "genocide in Gaza," reported Betakit, a news site for Canadian tech start-ups. Mr. Finkelstein is reported as having responded, "Sir, we're talking about entrepreneurship in Canada, and celebrating an amazing athlete, and these amazing entrepreneurs, and you're embarrassing yourself." Mr. Engler attempted to run for the federal NDP leadership, launching a campaign in late 2025, but the party deemed him ineligible. The NDP terminated his membership in March.
