SMARTWELL TECHNOLOGY CORP. OUTLINES AI-POWERED AGRICULTURE STRATEGY AND DUAL AI TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS
Smartwell Technology Corp. today outlined its technology platform and strategic priorities following its listing on the TSX Venture Exchange.
Smartwell is a Canadian agricultural technology company focused on applying
artificial intelligence, agricultural data and intelligent automation
to both indoor and outdoor agriculture. The company has developed two distinct AI technology platforms for different agricultural environments: its
controlled environment agriculture (CEA) system, focused on AI-driven crop growth and production management for greenhouse and indoor agriculture operators, and its
Yuntong agricultural remote sensing and data system, focused on AI-based satellite imagery and spectral recognition for outdoor agriculture. Yuntong is designed to serve large-scale farms as well as agricultural lenders and agricultural insurance companies.
Two AI technology platforms for indoor and outdoor agriculture
Smartwell's technology strategy is based on two distinct AI approaches designed for different agricultural environments and business requirements. The CEA platform is focused on the question of
how crops should be grown and managed in controlled environments, using crop growth models, environmental data and automation technologies to support production decisions. The Yuntong platform is focused on
identifying and monitoring crops and agricultural conditions across large outdoor areas, using satellite imagery, spectral information and AI analysis to convert remote sensing data into structured agricultural intelligence. Together, the two platforms address different but complementary areas of agricultural technology, spanning intelligent crop production and large-scale agricultural data analysis.
CEA: AI crop growth intelligence for greenhouse operators
Smartwell's CEA technology is primarily designed for
greenhouse operators and other indoor agriculture businesses
and is built around a
dual-engine architecture combining plant growth mechanistic models with deep neural network data models. The mechanistic models incorporate principles from plant physiology, photobiology, water and nutrient dynamics, and crop disease and pest
behaviour to provide scientific constraints that reflect the underlying logic of plant growth. The deep neural network models analyze crop growth, environmental and image data using technologies including time-series prediction, deep learning, and reinforcement learning to identify complex relationships that may not be captured by traditional rules or human experience alone. The two model layers interact and are continuously calibrated against one another, with the objective of combining
scientific interpretability with data-driven precision. Smartwell's CEA AI models have been trained and optimized using
more than 250 million crop growth data and image samples. Model outputs can be connected to greenhouse automation systems to support irrigation, fertilization, ventilation, lighting and other production activities, helping greenhouse operators improve the precision, efficiency and automation of crop management.
Yuntong: AI satellite imagery and spectral recognition for outdoor agriculture
Unlike the CEA platform, which is designed for indoor agriculture, Smartwell's
Yuntong agricultural remote sensing and data system
is focused on
outdoor agriculture and large-scale agricultural operations, with target customers including large farms, agricultural lenders and agricultural insurance companies. Yuntong uses a separate AI technology architecture to analyze satellite remote sensing imagery, multispectral and hyperspectral data, incorporating
small-sample learning and advanced AI techniques
to reduce reliance on large volumes of manually labelled data. The technology is designed to support crop identification, agricultural field and acreage identification, crop condition and growth monitoring, and large-scale agricultural change detection. For large farms, Yuntong can provide broad-area crop and agricultural condition information; for agricultural lenders, the data can support assessment of agricultural assets, planting activities and production risks; and for agricultural insurers, the technology can support monitoring and analysis of agricultural conditions and potential production risks. By combining satellite imagery, spectral information and AI analysis, Yuntong is designed to convert large-scale outdoor agricultural data into commercially useful agricultural intelligence.
From agricultural data to agricultural intelligence
Although the CEA and Yuntong platforms use different AI technology approaches, they share a common strategic foundation:
agricultural data, AI analysis and actionable agricultural intelligence. In indoor agriculture, Smartwell combines greenhouse sensor data, crop imagery and environmental information with AI crop growth models to generate production decisions and connect those decisions to automated systems. In outdoor agriculture, Smartwell uses satellite, spectral and other
agricultural data to identify and analyze conditions across large geographic areas and convert remote sensing data into information that can support agricultural management, lending and insurance decisions. Together, these capabilities position Smartwell across two complementary areas of agricultural intelligence:
intelligent indoor crop production and large-scale outdoor agricultural data intelligence
.
Strategic priorities following TSX-V listing
Following its TSX-V listing, Smartwell intends to continue advancing both AI technology platforms through commercialization and research and development. In indoor agriculture, the company plans to expand the application of its CEA technology across greenhouse and other controlled-environment operations, develop additional crop and growth-stage models, and further improve model training, validation and automated execution. In outdoor agriculture, the company plans to continue developing its small-sample AI, satellite imagery, and spectral recognition technologies and expand their applications across large farms, agricultural lending and agricultural insurance. The company also intends to continue developing its agricultural data capabilities and pursue customers and strategic opportunities in North America and other agricultural markets.
Building an AI agriculture technology platform
Smartwell's long-term strategy is to develop an AI agriculture technology platform spanning different agricultural production environments.
In indoor agriculture, the company helps greenhouse operators understand crop growth and optimize production decisions; in outdoor agriculture, the company helps large farms, agricultural lenders and agricultural insurers understand crop and production conditions across large geographic areas.
By applying different AI technologies -- including crop growth AI, plant growth mechanistic modelling, deep neural networks, small-sample learning, satellite imagery and spectral analysis -- to different agricultural challenges, Smartwell aims to develop technology solutions that can be deployed across crops, regions and agricultural applications.
