The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that Ukraine struck a Russian oil refinery on Thursday after President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that Kyiv was abandoning a ceasefire covering energy sites announced by President Donald Trump. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe says Mr. Zelensky also criticized Mr. Trump's willingness to strike deals with Moscow -- even busting his own sanctions on purchases of Russian petroleum products. Ukraine's latest target was a refinery near Moscow, which is owned by state oil major Rosneft and accounts for nearly 5 per cent of Russia's refinery throughput, helping supply the capital. Russian President Vladimir Putin played down the effect of Ukrainian long-range attacks on Russian refineries, saying they had caused "nothing particularly significant." Mr. Trump had blamed the attacks for raising diesel prices. But in the days that followed, Russia rained down missile and drone strikes, including on energy targets such as power stations. In an interview with the Financial Times, Mr. Zelensky said Ukraine's patience had run out. SpaceX's Starlink service was suspended briefly this week, which curbed Ukraine's ability to pilot its drones, and he suspects Mr. Trump was responsible.
