Globe says TC Energy, others not keen on Canada

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that there is much talk in political circles -- Alberta, especially -- about building new pipelines. The Globe's regular columnist Gordon Pape writes that the candidates are to resurrect Northern Gateway, revive Energy East and restart Keystone XL. There is also talk of building a pipeline to transport oil and natural gas to Churchill, Man., for overseas shipment via the unfreezing Arctic Ocean. There is just one small problem: Neither of our two major pipeline companies is showing much interest. In recent weeks, the reaction of both TC Energy and Enbridge to new Canadian megaprojects has been tepid at best. Both seem more interested in looking south. The United States and Mexico are better bets. After spinning off its oil pipeline business to South Bow last year, TC Energy now focuses on natural gas. The company has about $8.5-billion in assets expected to come on stream this year. One that they are excited about is the Southeast Gateway pipeline in Mexico, which was completed in the second quarter. Our other pipeline giant, Enbridge, is also more interested in looking south than in revisiting projects like Northern Gateway, which faces opposition in British Columbia.
