The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday, March 11, edition that oil exports through the Port of Vancouver almost doubled in 2025, processing 170.4 million tonnes of cargo, up from 158.4 million in 2024, according to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. A Postmedia dispatch to the Post reports that the results, coming after Prime Minister Mark Carney set a target to double Canada's non-U.S. exports, show "the Port of Vancouver is playing an outsized role," port authority chief executive officer Peter Xotta said in a news release. In 2025, shipments from Trans Mountain's Westridge marine terminal reached 24.4 million tonnes, a 95-per-cent increase from 13.2 million tonnes in 2024. This rise was expected, reflecting the first full year of operations for Trans Mountain's expanded pipeline, which nearly triples its capacity. Figures from the Canadian Energy Regulator estimate that the expanded pipeline has, on average, ran at 87 per cent of its existing capacity, carrying almost 775,000 barrels of diluted bitumen a day. Of that, 60 per cent, 463,000 barrels a day, was shipped from the Westridge terminal. Oil has now become the second-biggest single commodity exported from the Port of Vancouver.
