Alberta agreed to raise its industrial carbon tax in exchange for the federal government allowing a new oil pipeline to British Columbia by suspending several Trudeau-era environmental policies, including the oil and gas emissions cap and federal clean electricity regulations. This deal was finalized in November. Mr. Carney and Ms. Smith sat down on Friday more than a month after a deadline passed to reach a deal on the industrial carbon tax part of the arrangement. The pair have had "constructive conversations," since it was initially signed late last year, Ms. Smith said, but underscored how those in her province were waiting to see the final results. Ms. Smith said, "I know industry is getting a bit impatient, Albertans are getting a little bit impatient."
