Nelson Young, a former employee of Harbourfront Wealth Management Inc., has filed a countersuit against the firm in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, claiming that Harbourfront has yet to indicate if it will pay him any part of $1-billion to be distributed to shareholders as part of an investment from Berkshire Partners. He further says that he is still owed commissions from his time there. He is seeking court orders related to that money and other amounts.
The allegations from Mr. Young come as part of his response to a lawsuit Harbourfront previously filed against him. The firm claimed that Mr. Young resigned on May 8, 2026, while still owing the balance of a $2.25-million loan. The loan was a forgivable one, but only on the condition that Mr. Young remained with the firm for seven years. When he left, Mr. Young still owed $1.79-million, Harbourfront said.
For his part, Mr. Young agrees that he still owes money on the loan, but he says that Harbourfront owes him money as well. In a response and counterclaim filed on Oct. 21, 2026, Mr. Young claims Harbourfront should be required to pay him for outstanding commissions and the value of shares he holds in the firm.
