The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Monday was a weak 67-108-135 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose fractionally to 608. Jonathan Evans's Lithium Americas Corp. (LAC), a busy lithium explorer in Argentina and Nevada, continues to percolate. Today, it rose 83 cents to $30.04 on 720,000 shares. The stock zigzagged above $53 late last year but there have been more zags than zigs since then, halving its share price.

Canada's four surviving diamond mines are generating solid cash flows as rough diamond prices remain near all-time highs. Investors have access to all the juicy details of one, Gahcho Kue, thanks to Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD: $0.47) owning a 49-per-cent interest. The market can still divine details of a second, Diavik, from the production reports issued by its now 100-per-cent owner, Rio Tinto PLC, but for a third, Ekati, production and financial details are akin to state secrets, as it is now owned by a private company, Arctic Canada Diamond Co.
