The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a so-so 67-102-141 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell 10 points to 588. Christopher Anderson's Great Atlantic Resources Corp. (GR) closed unchanged at five cents on 1,000 shares. Great Atlantic is cheering a visit by Dr. Rhiana Henry to its South Quarry tungsten project in south-central Newfoundland early this month. The good doctor -- a postdoctoral research fellow more correctly -- popped by the property on behalf of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), although the GIA is arguably there on behalf of Great Atlantic's promotion of beryl crystals, found earlier this year on the play.
Dr. Henry met with a local prospector, Art Gardiner, who has been championing Newfoundland as a possible source of emeralds, and he collected some rock samples from South Quarry as part of "continuing emerald-related research," says Mr. Anderson, Great Atlantic's president and chief executive officer. The visitors focused on the area where the company had collected the green beryl crystals, so one presumes that Mr. Anderson will have more to say on the emerald front once Dr. Henry and the GIA get back to him.
