The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was an upbeat 96-67-147 as the TSX Venture Exchange leapt 12 points to 621. Among the more active specialty minerals stocks was Lithium Americas Corp. (LAC). The stock, above $10 in spring, had sagged below $3 in September amid the lithium gloom. Word of a joint venture with General Motors to develop Thacker Pass in Nevada sent the stock up nearly $1 on Wednesday, but today it fell 15 cents to $4.32 on 2.96 million shares.
Paul Zimnisky's dashed line of defence is still holding, although his global rough diamond price index has retreated for the second week in a row following three weeks of modest increases. This week's chart was set at 136.8 points, down from last week's fix at 137.0 points. (Mr. Zimnisky says the drop this week was 0.3 point, so late-to-arrive data for last week had nudged the index slightly higher.) In any case, the dashed line of defence shows rough prices have been flattish since mid-August.
