The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a so-so 69-72-169 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose four points to 721. Jason Jessup's Magna Mining Inc. (NICU) lost seven cents to $1.82 on 671,000 shares. The company has encouraging assays from its McCreedy West project in the Sudbury district of Northern Ontario. The hits include a 6.6-metre intercept grading 5.1 per cent copper, 1.0 per cent nickel and 1.8 grams of platinum group elements per tonne. A longer intercept, spanning 10.8 metres, mustered 3.0 per cent copper, 0.4 per cent nickel and 9.1 grams of platinum group elements per tonne.

Mr. Jessup, chief executive officer, left the applauding to his senior vice-president, Paul Fowler. (The title would have more oomph if the company had any junior vice-presidents: David King is senior vice-president of exploration and geoscience, while Tim Bradburn is senior vice-president serving as general counsel.) Mr. Fowler said that they -- presumably referring to Mr. Jessup and the gaggle of senior vice-presidents, as well as Jeff Huffman, chief operating officer, and Scott Gilbert, chief financial officer -- were proud to be advancing several projects that they believe will make a meaningful contribution toward augmenting the upstream portion of the critical mineral supply chain in Canada.
