The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a rousing 136-49-125 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose five points to 947. Dermot Desmond's beleaguered Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) continues to endure the twin perils of low rough diamond prices and reduced production at its Gahcho Kue mine in the Northwest Territories. Those perils, the company believes, are temporary, but the market is not so sure.
Not so long ago, investors who were thrilled with Mountain Province and its $7 stock would turn up their noses at Dr. Ray Davies's Talmora Diamond Inc. (TAI) as it floundered about, trying to finance exploration at its Horton and Seahorse projects, north of Great Bear Lake. Little wonder: No-bid Talmora hovered near one cent for what seemed like forever, trading perhaps once every full moon. Talmora still trades infrequently -- but it did so today, as it closed unchanged at two cents on 9,000 shares. Unfortunately, Mountain Province's shares have moved southward to join Talmora, closing unchanged today at four cents on 63,000 shares.
