The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a horrid 49-145-116 as the TSX Venture Exchange crashed 41 points to 965. One might think that Paul Zimnisky, a New York-based diamond analyst who has become the go-to guru on matters gemological, has gone on vacation. His global rough diamond price index just spent another week drifting sideways, unchanged by either current prices or the late-to-arrive data that often prompt a revision to recent weekly settings. But, no, Mr. Zimnisky is still on the job -- it is just that supply and demand have found some short-term equilibrium.

Indeed, he recently extended the left side of that line such that it is about one emphatic dash away from covering the full one-year chart.
