The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a positive 102-80-128 as the TSX Venture Exchange dipped three points to 1,087. On Wednesday, Scandium Canada Ltd. (SCD) had its busiest day in several months -- and nearly since forever -- as it leapt nine cents to 27 cents on 12.48 million shares. It would have blown past its all-time record volume with ease had the regulators not halted the stock with 36 minutes to go, "pending company contact" -- standard lingo that means the regulators saw the frantic trading and decided to ask what was up.

Nothing was up, other than what has already been revealed, the company responded this morning, so down she came: Scandium Canada fell five cents to 22 cents on 17.38 million shares today -- setting a new volume record with ease. The company is working the Crater Lake project, northeast of Schefferville, which it touts as "one of the most promising primary sources of scandium globally."
