The critical and specialty minerals box score for Tuesday was a ho-hum 131-57-122 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose 22 points to 1,053. Almonty Industries Inc. (AII), a South Korean tungsten miner, was hot today, as it leapt $2.74 to $18.32 on 2.39 million shares. So was Alphamin Resources Corp. (AFM), a high-grade tin miner in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which rose 11 cents to $1.37 on 5.75 million shares.

Chuck Downie's Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. (EPL) rose 2.5 cents to 21.5 cents on 694,000 shares. The company is mobilizing for a drill program at its George Lake project, nearly 300 kilometres north of La Ronge in northernmost Saskatchewan. The plan calls for three holes to reach average depths of about 550 metres, tests designed to explore -- inhale deeply and brace for some geologese -- the sedimentary exhalative stratigraphy that hosts the George Lake deposit.

The holes are described as systematic 200-metre stepouts, to be completed both downdip and along strike from historical intersections, one of which produced hits of 6.96 per cent zinc, 1.42 per cent lead and 5.91 grams per tonne of silver over an eight-metre interval. That richer zone occurred within a broader 47.8-metre zone that ran 4.50 per cent zinc, 0.61 per cent lead and 3.49 grams per tonne of silver.
