The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a mediocre 82-94-134 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell two points to 895. Ian Fraser's Fathom Nickel Inc. (FNI), unchanged at 2.5 cents on 686,000 shares, applauds its discovery of two new nickel-copper-cobalt zones identified in a phase II drill program on the Gochager Lake project in Saskatchewan.
About two-thirds of the 3,000-metre drill program is now complete, and the effort should wrap up by the end of the month. This follow-up drilling of features identified using down-hole geophysics hit two new zones of gabbro-hosted nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization northeast and southwest of the historic deposit, Fathom says, offering a geological placebo as it awaits the assays, expected in early August.
Mr. Fraser, chief executive officer and vice-president of exploration, says that an off-hole anomaly below a hole drilled earlier this year led to the discovery of a new mineralized zone about 100 metres northeast of the Gochager Lake deposit. A second hole, a follow-up to another off-hole anomaly, also intersected gabbro-hosted nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization about 150 metres southwest of the deposit.
