The critical and specialty minerals box score for Tuesday was a weak 67-95-158 as the TSX Venture Exchange slid seven points to 887. Scott Lendrum's Giga Metals Corp. (GIGA) was unchanged at six cents on 2.1 million shares. On Monday, Giga cheered that it has acquired 100-per-cent ownership of the Turnagain nickel project in northwestern British Columbia.

Wait, you say, scratching your noggin: "I thought Giga owned the project already." Well, it did -- and then it didn't -- but it does again, as its now former co-venturer, Mitsubishi Corp., has exercised a put right granted it in the 2022 arrangement between the two companies, in which it has put itself out of the project and put its 15-per-cent interest back in Giga's hands.

"We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the opportunity to partner with Giga Metals on the Turnagain project," offered Kota Ikenishi, a Mitsubishi spokesman, adding that the move "is not a reflection of Turnagain, nor of the dedication, commitment and hard work demonstrated by the Giga team." No, it is simply "the result of Mitsubishi's broader portfolio review and assessment of the North American nickel and electric vehicle markets since investment." In other words: "It's not you, Giga, it's us."
