New York spot gold added $2.10 to $1,771.20 on Tuesday. The TSX-V lost 0.39 point to 581.25 while the TSX gold index gained 0.53 point to 277.70. Canadian gold miners were inconsistent in trading today -- other than that most had nothing new to say. New Gold Inc. (NGD), down 11 cents to $1.45 on 3.04 million shares, has been silent since it abruptly replaced Renaud Adams with Patrick Godin as its president and chief executive officer late last month. New Gold worked its way as high as $1.68 last Friday but has been in retreat since then.
Jody Kuzenko's Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) did add 21 cents to $13.10 on 646,000 shares, but it revealed late yesterday that a 15.96-metre stepout hit at its El Limon Guajes mine in southern Mexico had averaged 87.6 grams of gold per tonne. Ms. Kuzenko, president and CEO, says that drilling beneath the El Limon Sur open pit has "validated the mineralized potential" of a steeply dipping zone that she calls El Limon Sur Deep.
