New York spot gold added $14.40 to $1,838.90 on Tuesday -- the first trading day of 2023. The TSX-V, which endured a bleak 2022, dropping over 380 points, dipped another 3.10 points today to 567.17. The TSX gold index had a great day nevertheless, adding 12.10 points to 289.89. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher, some with enthusiasm. Karora Resources Inc. (KRR) jumped 32 cents to $4.97 on 1.56 million shares while Newmont Corp. (NGT) added $3.96 to $67.79 on 425,000 shares. Also northbound with gusto was Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS), which added $1.41 to $23.51 on 984,000 shares.
It was not word about spectacular assays that investors hoped would start the new year, but Collin Kettell's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) rose 19 cents to $5.64 on 305,000 shares on word it is expanding its huge and never-ending drill program on its Queensway project in north-central Newfoundland. The 14-rig, 400,000-metre drill program took a holiday break late last year with 319,000 metres completed, but it is again under way.
