New York spot gold added another $4.40 to $1,870.10 on Monday, prodding the TSX-V another 4.79 points upward today. The TSX gold index fell 3.54 points to 298.48, after hitting its highest point since late last spring. Canadian diamond miners moved southward today, but not Franco Nevada Corp. (FNV), which added $2.17 to $190.11 on 513,000 shares. Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) led the retreat, dropping 14 cents to $2.79 on 2.82 million shares, but investors were bullish on New Gold Inc. (NGD) again today: It added one cent to $1.47 on 2.7 million shares. Last fall, a share cost just 80 cents.

Today was assay day for gold explorers looking for promotional exposure to start the week. Jason Bahnsen's Tempus Resources Ltd. (TMRR) led off the parade, cheering a 28.5-metre hit in the No. 9 vein at its Elizabeth project in south-central British Columbia that averaged a healthy 28.1 grams of gold per tonne. The hit was bolstered by two intervals that averaged about 170 grams of gold per tonne, each across just over one metre, without which the remaining 26.1 metres still managed a respectable 14.8 grams per tonne.
