New York spot gold rose another $21.70 to $1,918.40 on Friday. The TSX-V added 5.23 points to 615.11 while the TSX gold index gained 4.20 points to 310.97. Most Canadian gold miners moved upward today. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) added 59 cents to $18.30 on 666,000 shares, while Iamgold Corp. (IMG) rose 11 cents to $3.72 on 3.65 million shares.

Not all were of good cheer today, as Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX) slid 29 cents early but closed unchanged at $9.13 on 8.18 million shares. Yes, you read that right: Victoria traded a record number of shares today, thanks to a 6.07-million share premarket cross by Cormark Securities Ltd. at $9 per share, through the Pure Trading exchange. Victoria said yesterday that it had drilled a 6.5-metre interval averaging 24.69 grams of gold per tonne at Dublin gulch in Yukon.

Speaking of record trading, Matt Manson's Marathon Gold Corp. (MOZ) fell seven cents to $1.16 on 26.55 million shares, having begun the day with a 17.46-million-share premarket cross by National Bank at $1.06 per share, also using Pure Trading. Retail shareholders then followed suit, driving the stock lower -- a disappointment since Marathon had gained 11 cents to $1.23 on 5.44 million shares on Thursday.
