New York spot gold rose $6.80 to $1,931.90 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.07 points to 618.06 while the TSX gold index added 1.41 points to 278.25. Most Canadian gold miners gained altitude today. New Gold Inc. (NGD) added 11 cents to $1.57 on 4.11 million shares on a productive second quarter, while Argonaut Gold Inc. (AR) added three cents to 58 cents on 4.02 million shares. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) lost seven cents to $4.68 on 220,000 shares.

Jody Kuzenko's Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) had a ho-hum day, falling 16 cents to $18.99 on 329,000 shares despite word it has drilled a 14.46-metre interval averaging 88.61 grams of gold and 20.6 grams of silver per tonne from deep drilling at its El Limon Guajes (ELG) project in Guerrero, Mexico. Ms. Kuzenko, president and chief executive officer, was "excited about the positive results" from ELG Underground, as the program is a "key facet of [the company's] strategy to optimize and extend the mine life" at the mine, "with a view to filling the mill beyond 2027."
