New York spot gold rose $25.10 to $1,957.30 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 8.47 points to 626.53 while the TSX gold index surged 12.33 points to 290.58. Most Canadian gold miners managed solid gains today. Thor Explorations Ltd. (THX) added 3.5 cents to 36 cents on 2.11 million shares on word it produced just over 23,000 ounces of gold at Segilola in Nigeria during the second quarter. New Gold said yesterday that it produced over 76,500 ounces of gold and 12 million pounds of copper in its second quarter, both up sharply over its result a year ago. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) was also strong, as it added 26 cents to $3.83 on 1.64 million shares.

Geologists with Roger Rosmus's Goliath Resources Ltd. (GOT) are keeping their eyes peeled as drilling progresses at the company's Golddigger property in the Golden Triangle district of northwestern British Columbia. Today, Goliath cheered word that it has drilled visible gold and 12.47 near-surface metres of "highly-mineralized quartz-sulphide-rich breccia" within the Surebet Golden Gate feeder zone. Better yet, the two headline results are not coincidental: The visible gold sighting was a one-millimetre nugget found within a 1.17-metre interval of the same breccia, lying deeper within the same hole.
