New York spot gold fell $8.10 to $1,960.90 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 0.97 point to 616.66 while the TSX gold index added 1.82 points to 289.13. Newmont Corp. (NGT), down $3.70 yesterday on a gloomy second quarter report, rebounded $1.23 to $57.14 on 354,000 shares today. The company earned $155-million (U.S.) in its second quarter and kept its quarterly dividend at 10 U.S. cents, but it missed its profit guidance significantly.
Peter Tallman's Klondike Gold Corp. (KG) added one cent to 9.5 cents on 149,000 shares on word that it has drilled a 15.15-metre near-surface interval averaging 1.27 grams of gold per tonne at the Stander deposit on the Klondike project in the Dawson district of Yukon. The headline hit was among 24 holes with results today. All but three returned gold, but most of the longer hits -- those topping 10 metres -- had grades less than 0.5 gram per tonne. The longest, a 45.9-metre stretch, averaged 0.27 gram per tonne and that was at depth.
