New York spot gold fell $3.10 to $1,888.30 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 5.64 points to 585.72 while the TSX gold index dropped 2.74 points to 260.88. Canadian gold miners were variable today. Newmont Corp. (NGT) led those northbound, with a 48-cent gain to $52.34 on 351,000 shares. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) was busy but down just a bit, dropping five cents to $6.33 on 4.63 million shares. Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) was a laggard, dropping 14 cents to $2.66 on 1.74 million shares.
Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) fell 11 cents to $6.04 on 144,000 shares. The company rolled out another batch of assays from its Queensway project in north-central Newfoundland. Today's results are from 16 holes drilled into the Keats West zone, a recently discovered mineralized area on the western side of the prolific Appleton fault zone (AFZ). The headline hit was a 30.05-metre interval averaging 5.81 grams of gold per tonne, but with erratic grades throughout the zone.
