New York spot gold rose $4.60 to $1,894.10 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.77 point to 585.34 while the TSX gold index added 1.99 points to 262.10. Canadian gold miners moved little today, but there were some with more energetic efforts. Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI), up 43 cents to $15.38 on 762,000 shares, helped lead those northbound today, while Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) led the retreat, dropping seven cents to $5.48 on 260,000 shares.

Matti Talikka's Aurion Resources Ltd. (AU) slid four cents to 51 cents on 238,000 shares on word that it has encountered a new gold zone at Kutuvuoma, an area on its joint venture project with B2Gold Corp. (BTO) in Finland. The headline hit returned 0.99 gram of gold per tonne across 16.35 metres, aided by a 10.45-metre stretch averaging 1.43 grams per tonne. Two other holes in the area also returned gold -- one with a modest grade and the other with a shorter interval.
