New York spot gold jumped $13.50 to $1,873.50 on Wednesday as instability in the Middle East continues to percolate. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 0.56 point to 534.65 while the TSX gold index added 6.04 points to 266.68. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) was strong again, adding $1.01 to $9.97 on 92,000 shares, but Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) lagged, dropping two cents to $6.36 on 803,000 shares.

Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) rose nine cents to $5.55 on 150,000 shares on word it has drilled a two-metre interval averaging 91.86 grams of gold per tonne at Monte Carlo, just west of the Appleton fault zone on its Queensway project in north-central Newfoundland. Several other holes yielded encouragement, including a 2.7-metre near-surface hit grading 18.85 grams per tonne and a 2.05-metre zone with 23.52 grams per tonne.
