New York spot gold rose $2.40 to $1,922.10 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.54 points to 537.92 while the TSX gold index added 5.81 points to 280.23. Canadian gold miners gained altitude today, some more than others. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) was among the energetic traders, as it added $1.68 to $67.29 on 2.29 million shares. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) was also strong -- it added 25 cents to $7.24 on 5.35 million shares. New Gold Inc. (ERO) was not, as it added just one cent to $1.49 on 1.74 million shares.
Paul Matysek and Collin Kettell's Nevada King Gold Corp. (NKG) rose two cents to 45.5 cents on 725,000 shares on assays from the company's Atlanta project in southeastern Nevada. Results from four new holes included a 114.3-metre hit at depth that averaged 1.89 grams of gold and 2.8 grams of silver per tonne, aided by a 27.1-metre stretch that graded 4.6 grams of gold and 17.9 grams of silver per tonne. A second hole did about as well, with a somewhat shorter interval but slightly higher grades.
