New York spot gold rose $26.20 to $1,973.10 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 2.02 points to 523.82 while the TSX gold index dipped 0.04 point to 280.45. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today, but a few were energetic traders. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) added seven cents to $7.36 on 4.76 million shares and Argonaut Gold Inc. (AR) lost one cent to 53 cents on 2.55 million shares. Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV) was a value leader but it lost $2.39 to $189.35 on 390,000 shares.
Marc Pais's Arizona Metals Corp. (AMC) fell 12 cents to $2.62 on 1.93 million shares on word it has drilled a three-metre interval grading three grams of gold and 17 grams of silver per tonne in the Western target at its Kay project, north of Phoenix in south-central Arizona. (With a modest amount of zinc also present, the full gold equivalent grade was 3.2 grams per tonne.) Most of the metal encouragement came from a 0.9-metre subinterval grading 9.4 grams of gold equivalent per tonne.
