New York spot gold slipped $9.10 to $1,972.10 on Monday, as the markets grow accustomed to the new reality of wars and rumours of wars. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 1.81 points to 518.93 while the TSX gold index dipped 2.18 points to 278.89. Torex Gold Resources Ltd. (TXG), up on Friday, led the retreat today, dropping 68 cents to $13.75 on 308,000 shares. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) stumbled as well, dropping 61 cents to $10.20 on 40,000 shares. Among those northbound today was SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM), which added 22 cents to $19.61 on 545,000 shares.
Renaud Adams's Iamgold Corp. (IMG) lost six cents to $3.26 on 1.95 million shares on word that it has drilled a 300.8-metre interval averaging 1.4 grams of gold per tonne in the Gosselin discovery area of its Cote project in Northern Ontario. There were better grades but over shorter intervals, such as 1.53 grams per tonne across 240 metres in another hole. There were also longer hits but with lower grades, including a 500.8-metre interval that graded 0.72 gram per tonne.
