New York spot gold rose $7.90 to $1,957.70 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 0.89 point to 514.94 while the TSX gold index lost 1.50 points to 260.68. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today, but some moved more enthusiastically. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) was among them as it added 80 cents to $9.60 on 81,000 shares. First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM), another laggard of late thanks to uncertainty surrounding its Cobre Panama mine in Panama, bounced back $1.25 to $16.84 on 5.44 million shares today. Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) on the other hand appears to have disappointed the market with its third quarter profit: It lost 74 cents to $15.63 on 853,000 shares.

Scott Berdahl's Snowline Gold Corp. (SGD) rose four cents to $4.19 on 130,000 shares on word it has drilled a 373-metre interval grading 1.45 grams of gold per tonne at the Valley intrusion, on its Rogue project in the mountains of east-central Yukon. The upper 212 metres of that interval, which began near surface, graded 2.07 grams of gold per tonne. A second hole revealed today did nearly as well, with 360 metres of 1.34 grams of gold per tonne. Two other holes were also completed today, but neither hit the intrusion.
