New York spot gold added $2.80 to $1,992.10 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.12 points to 530.06 while the TSX gold index dipped 1.13 points to 274.07. Most Canadian diamond producers moved little today. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) dipped just three cents to $7.57 on 614,000 shares and Iamgold Corp. (IMG), typically another busy trader, lost six cents to $3.24 on just 295,000 shares. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), uncustomarily quiet for nearly a month, fell 23 cents to $67.67 on only 123,000 shares today.

Copper is the new silver, oil, lithium -- whatever sexy commodity investors are chasing -- or so it is said. Perhaps, but Brian Fowler's Northstar Gold Corp. (NSG) managed to levitate just one cent to 4.5 cents today on 2.82 million shares on word of a rich copper hit at the Miller copper and gold property just southeast of Kirkland Lake in Northern Ontario. One of the last three holes of the 2023 drill program yielded a 2.45-metre interval grading 14.78 per cent copper and 10.9 grams of silver per tonne from the Zone 2 area.
