New York spot gold added $3 to $2,028.10 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 0.04 point to 534.01 while the TSX gold index fell 1.24 points to 281.63. Many Canadian gold miners moved little today although some, like Kinross Gold Corp. (K), which dipped eight cents to $7.92 on 4.21 million shares, were busy traders. Argonaut Gold Inc. (AR) fell 1.5 cents to 38.5 cents on 3.52 million shares while Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV) added 66 cents to $146.06 on 984,000 shares.
Josef Vejvoda's Moneta Gold Inc. (ME) rose two cents to 85 cents on 192,000 shares on word it has drilled a 31.55-metre interval averaging 7.46 grams of gold per tonne on the Jonpol deposit at its Tower gold project in the Timmins district of Northern Ontario. The hit got most of its gold from a 12-metre subinterval that averaged 16.48 grams per tonne -- and most of that sat within a 7.9-metre portion grading 23.67 grams per tonne.
