New York spot gold fell $9.50 to $2,034.50 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 4.30 points to 538.82 while the TSX gold index lost 6.04 points to 285.59. Most Canadian-listed gold miners nosed lower today. An exception was China Gold International Resources Corp. (CGG), which added nine cents to $5.39 on 48,000 shares, but New Gold Inc. (NGD) was typical, dropping four cents to $2 on 4.01 million shares. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) was its usual busy self, losing 21 cents to $8.03 on 4.76 million shares.
Rick Howes's Reunion Gold Corp. (RGD) rose one cent to 45.5 cents on 8.83 million shares on word it has reached a "mutually acceptable" settlement with Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX: $23.75) regarding a claim Barrick brought early this year. In mid-February, Mr. Howes, Reunion's president and chief executive officer, revealed that his company was named in a suit filed by Barrick that stemmed from Reunion terminating a strategic alliance agreement with Barrick at the end of 2022.
