New York spot gold rose $2.90 to $2,035.70 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 3.87 points to 558.78 while the TSX gold index dipped 1.53 points to 262.28. New Gold Inc. (NGD) nevertheless had a good day, adding 10 cents to $1.60 on 5.85 million shares without benefit of news. Another silent miner, Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG), on the other hand, fell 34 cents to $13.70 on 348,000 shares.

Derek White's Ascot Resources Ltd. (AOT) rose one cent to 71 cents on 8.85 million shares. This was the fourth consecutive gain, the stock having jumped 25 cents over the previous three sessions. On Monday, Ascot surged 15 cents to 70 cents on 6.04 million shares, its busiest day since last April -- until today, that is. A week ago, Ascot said it had arranged the sale of 56.82 million shares at 44 cents. It also tentatively negotiated a $50-million (U.S.) financing with Sprott Resource Streaming and Royalty Corp. that includes a $30-million (U.S.) royalty restructuring and a $20-million (U.S.) cost overrun facility.
