New York spot gold fell $1.20 to $2,029.40 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 5.49 points to 555.72 while the TSX gold index fell 1.68 points to 240.67. Canadian gold miners had a mixed performance today. Some went up, some declined, and several made their moves with uncustomary gusto. On the downside, Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) lost 13 cents to $2.20 on 4.22 million shares without any prodding by news. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) on the other hand added two cents to $3.67 on 1.97 million shares, but it had news -- word late yesterday that it had earned $104-million (U.S.) in 2023.

And then there was Michael Wood's Sendero Resources Corp. (SEND), which crashed to an intraday low of 26 cents before ending the day down eight cents to 34 cents on 1.67 million shares. The slump followed word that the company has completed 1,544 metres of its planned 4,500-metre drill program on the Penas Negras property in La Rioja, Argentina. Assays are still pending from the three completed holes that tested priority targets at La Pena, Tamberias and La Ollita, but the market reacted badly to the detailed description of what the geologists eyeballed.
