New York spot gold rose $6.10 Monday, closing at $2,627.50. The TSX Venture Exchange added 3.29 points to 588.2 while the TSX gold index lost 2.46 points to 376.36. Most Canadian gold miners were strong today. Aura Minerals Inc. (ORA) rose 31 cents to $15.82 on 247,000 shares, while Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) rose seven cents to $3.91 on 6.87 million shares. Neither company had news today and neither did SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM), but it fell 50 cents to $7.68 on 1.74 million shares.

The leaves are turning colour, marking the arrival of fall, and another harbinger of an approaching winter has arrived: Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) is back on the news bandwagon. The company continues to beaver away with its Queensway project in north-central Newfoundland, but its last exploration news had come in early July. Today, however, the company rolled out the anticipated results of channel sampling atop the stripped area of its Keats zone.
