New York spot gold reclaimed $26.50 Tuesday, closing at $2,660.50. The TSX Venture Exchange added 5.97 points to 587.09 while the TSX gold index rose 5.22 points to 373.83. Most Canadian listed gold miners moved northward today, helped along by Allied Gold Corp. (AAUC), which rose 12 cents to $3.34 on 1.79 million shares. Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) also did well, adding 84 cents to $29.08 on 1.41 million shares. Silvercrest Metals Inc. (SIL) did not fare as well, as it lost five cents to $12.50 on 760,000 shares.

James Hesketh's Viva Gold Corp. (VAU) rose 1.5 cents to 18 cents on 119,000 shares as it sent a drill to its Tonopah gold project in Nevada. The reverse circulation rig will complete between 15 and 20 holes before the end of the year, the company cheers, adding that it has approval for 25 new drill pad locations. (In other words, expect more drilling next year.) Most of the locations were picked to support infill and stepout drilling in the area hosting a current resource, but four of the pads were sited on exploration targets farther afield.
