New York spot gold rose $25.30 Friday, closing at $2,655.20. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 9.62 points to 605.43 while the TSX gold index added 2.06 points to 376.71. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today, especially those with a copper connection. First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM) added 60 cents to $18.31 on 3.24 million shares while Ero Copper Corp. (ERO) rose 53 cents to $28.75 on 316,000 shares. Not everyone had the party hats and kazoos out today: Its third quarter report sent Mandalay Resources Corp. (MND) falling 20 cents to $3.18 on 68,000 shares.

Ryan Kalt's Dixie Gold Inc. (DG) closed unchanged at five cents on 54,000 shares. The company grumped today about having received correspondence from the Asubpeeschoseewagong Anishinabek First Nation -- better referred to as Grassy Narrows by those who have not kept up with their tongue calisthenics. The correspondence notified the company of third party litigation and reiterated a call for a cessation of mining activities in the area. Dixie Gold has valid claims in the area, its Red Lake project, although that play has been sliding lower on the company's priority list.
