New York spot gold gained $31.30 to $3,384.90 on Thursday as the TSX Venture Exchange added 0.27 point to 721.79 while the TSX gold index gained 12.30 points to 502.55. Most gold miners listed in Canada had good days. Lundin Gold Corp. (LUG) jumped $4.40 to $72.99 on 1.72 million shares unaided by news, while Majestic Gold Corp. (MJS) added one cent to 17.5 cents on 1.35 million shares, also in silence.
Not everyone had out their kazoos and party hats today: Darren Hall's Calibre Mining Corp. (CXB) slid to a morning low of $2.98, ending the day down 16 cents to $3.13 on 22.84 million shares. There was no news to account for the fall, but a bit of early-day sleuthing provided the answer. Calibre had company, you see: Greg Smith's Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX) fell 54 cents to $8.93 on 13.51 million shares and it had news -- news that triggered the slide for both companies.
