New York spot gold gained $12.10 Wednesday, closing at $3,312.40. The TSX Venture Exchange added 5.62 points to 757.53 while the TSX gold index reclaimed 7.74 points to 495.17. Canada's gold miners moved comparatively little today compared with yesterday, at least without a helpful shove delivered by news. Newmont Corp. (NGT) added $1.55 to $80.43 on 413,000 shares in silence while Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) added $1.67 to $71.65 on 982,000 shares.
Among those southbound today was Melissa Render and Keith Boyle's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG), which lost five cents to $1.85 on 504,000 shares. With New Found its silence arguably is the news, as it has missed the target date for its preliminary economic assessment of its Queensway project in Newfoundland. Indeed, Ms. Render, president, and Mr. Boyle, chief executive officer, have been mute as a mouse tiptoeing past a sleeping tabby since they last promised the study in mid-June.
