New York spot gold ended Friday up $28.10 at $4,713.70. The TSX Venture Exchange ended the day up 3.04 points to 997.32 while the TSX gold index leapt 29.45 points to 915.40. Most Canadian gold and silver miners gained ground today. Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) jumped $3.59 to $95.99 on 726,000 shares while Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) slipped 13 cents to $34.17 on 1.06 million shares.

David Watkinson's Rise Gold Corp. (RISE) fell 26.5 cents to 25.5 cents on 1.01 million shares today on word that the Superior Court of California has denied a request that it "compel the board of supervisors of Nevada county to follow applicable law and grant Rise recognition of its vested right to operate the Idaho-Maryland mine." Rise says that it intends to appeal the court ruling.

Should that fail, the company's property would become worthless, which would allow it to launch another legal salvo against the county, seeking "just compensation" under the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. And what is just, you ask? Well, according to Mr. Watkinson, chief executive officer, based on comparable mines and the historical yield at the Idaho-Maryland mine, the project "is conservatively estimated to be worth at least $400-million (U.S.)."
