New York spot gold dropped $85.30 to $3,974.20 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 23.42 points to 854.37 while the TSX gold index shed 27.41 points to 708.75. Remember just a few months back, bullion topped $5,500 an ounce and both exchange indices were in the 1,100s. Yesterday's big loser, Altius Minerals Corp. (ALS), dropped $9.99 on word of a financing at $60.50. Today it rebounded $1.41 to $57.46 on 614,000 shares, about the only hint of green among precious metals stocks. Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE) was typical of the rest, as it lost 13 cents to $2.13 on 2.77 million shares.
Nick Horsley's Hi-View Resources Inc. (GXLD) lost one-half cent to 27 cents on 3,000 shares on word it has begun work at its properties in the Toodoggone district of northwestern British Columbia. "District-scale exploration of the Toodoggone" enthuses the company's website, and that is no exaggeration, as Hi-View plans work on several properties it holds across the district.
