New York spot gold rose $48.70 to $4,390.10 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange had a good day, adding 18.91 points to 973.81 while the TSX gold index rose 4.44 points to 890.06. Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) was strong today, adding 97 cents to $14.26 on 2.17 million shares in silence. Silvercorp Metals Inc. (SVM), quiet since mid-July, tagged along, adding 97 cents to $17 on 2.83 million shares. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG), on the other hand, dropped $1.14 to $61.61 on 1.39 million shares.
Barrick Mining Corp. (ABX) took a greater tumble, but it did so on news. Barrick shed $3.93, closing at $57.03 on 16.4 million shares, on word that Newmont Corp. has provided consent for Barrick to complete its planned initial public offering -- a spinoff of its North American assets. The settlement of a lingering spat adds Barrick's Fourmile project and Newmont's Fiberline and Mike projects to their Nevada Gold Mines joint venture, with Barrick getting a $1.9-billion (U.S.) payment from Newmont as a result.
