New York spot gold retreated $50.50 Monday, pausing for air at $4,296.70. The TSX Venture Exchange lost ground as well, dropping 7.99 points to 919.87, while the TSX gold index slid 24.12 points to 935.44. Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (ASM) lost 30 cents to $8.70 on 1.32 million shares and it had plenty of company on its southbound trek. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) dropped $1.34 to $37.42 on 3.17 million shares, while Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) lost $3.43 to $57.19 on 1.62 million shares.
Cynthia Le Sueur-Aquin's Laurion Mineral Exploration Inc. (LME) dropped one-half cent to 14.5 cents on 179,000 shares on new assays from its Ishkoday project in Northwestern Ontario. The headline hit returned 0.57 gram of gold and 12.4 grams of silver per tonne, along with 0.45 per cent copper and 1.75 per cent zinc, over a 3.75-metre stretch at depth. A second hole had better grades -- 1.37 grams of gold and 10.1 grams of silver per tonne along with 0.49 per cent copper and 2..01 per cent zinc, but over just 1.15 metres.
